The Problem

In 2018, Freedom House recorded the 13th consecutive year of decline in global freedom. The reversal has spanned a variety of countries in every region, including long-standing democracies such as the United States. Western democracies are suffering from a general civic disengagement that has conditioned governance to be perceived as unattractive, unrepresentative, and unchangeable. While the overall losses are still shallow compared with the gains of the late 20th century, the pattern is consistent and ominous.

Democracy is in crisis.

Our Solution

Developed in partnership with Bang the Table Canada, our EngageParl online engagement platform is a tool to drive inclusive, transparent, and measurable civic engagement to empower collaborative learning, discussion, and debate. Unlike standard websites or social media, EngageParl is an engagement site where ongoing conversations are developed and where meaningful interactions are held. By giving the community better opportunities to have their say on issues that are important to them, EngageParl’s mission is to improve the quality of public debate and level of community involvement in public life.

Robust democracy requires real public participation. Our mission is to enable this participation as a fundamental pillar of well-functioning 21st-century democracies by forging constructive relationships between communities and the institutions of government.
